I can relate to almost everything you write. I too yearn for escape from the urban jungle and hope to relocate one day to a village (of which there are many in Finland) but this is impractical while work is in the big cities.
In Finland the when on an outing the ducklings walk in pairs with mother duck's front and back. In some ways they have to be independent yet in most others children are trained to obey all authority and the chance of real riots here is vanishingly small. P.S. Finland is not the happiest country, it just has good PR teams.
It was my experience of living remotely that the locals were very nice, but placed blind trust in authority and the need for compliance. I couldn't live there now, but it's nice to visit.
